DIS - Data Integration System

The participation of the different agents in the sector's supply chain: farmers, agri-food companies, waste managers, technology centers and universities, have been key factors in developing an innovative ICT platform (DIS - Data Integration System), which will help all participating agents to improve their competitiveness by facilitating the digitalization of the circular processes in which multilayer and organic plastic waste is generated in the agri-food sector.

The Data Integration System is an online technological platform that solves industry challenges.

Using a Traceability Tool to identify materials, their origin, processes and quality, and a Decision Support Tool that predicts the characteristics of the agrofood residual streams. Moreover, it explores all the available alternatives for its valorisation and selects the most appropiate routes taking into account social, economic, environmental and regulatory criteria.

DIS will allow to process all data and information required for circular business models and the complex demands of the circular supply chains, being an enabler for upscaling the circular economy in the agrifood sector.

Objectives

It is an online technology platform, which is tailored to all actors in the agri-food chain, to make the most of the enormous information and volume of data generated in these circular processes and to manage them as efficiently as possible

It allows the reception, management, consultation and printing of the traceability of waste in the agri-food sector

It offers a highly efficient and flexible system of traceability and data prediction for waste management in the agri-food sector, according to the specific specifications of each applicant, in terms of costs, traceability and sustainability.

It constitutes a technological and research benchmark for traceability users (companies, managers and transporters, recyclers, manufacturers and administration).

Structure

DIS is a secure software infrastructure, based on Blockchain, Big Data and Internet of Things technologies
It integrates the entire value chain of multilayer plastic materials and organic products in their transformation by companies in a continuous flow, drawing and creating traceability in real time
As it is a technological platform in the cloud, it allows the incorporation and transfer of digital information from any device connected to the Internet, facilitating the automation of operations to ensure the correct management of waste in the sector.
By having a source of quality data, it will be used to carry out analyses and simulations, to provide forecasts and make strategic decisions to improve recycling and waste transformation processes, ensuring and guaranteeing all the information with Blockchain technology.

Milestones

Facilitates proper waste management at the level of agricultural producers and agri-food companies to comply with regulatory requirements.

Improves the efficiency of the logistics chain for the collection of these wastes.

Predicts the characteristics of agri-food waste streams and explores all available alternatives to select the best recovery route for each waste

Easy access to provide public administrations with a more agile and efficient management of these waste management processes

Helps all agents in the supply chain to comply with the European Standard UNE 15343:2008 on traceability of plastic recycling and conformity assessment and recycled content

Stakeholders

  • Public administrations: Easier access to data on agri-food waste management for more efficient management of the processes it supervises.

  • Control authorities: cost reduction in auditing and control processes, as well as a more precise knowledge of the content of recycled materials and traceability.

  • Producers-Managers-Valuers: Real-time information on waste management and acceptance. Information that will allow them to optimise logistics and provide services more efficiently.

  • Industrial sector: application of the products resulting from the recycled material for the development of new products. Access to a huge source of data on raw materials that will allow them to optimise their supply processes and streamline the management of their operations.
